According to the SberNPF survey, which was attended by more than 13 thousand residents of cities with a population of more than 500 thousand people, 7.7% of Russians, or approximately one in 13, save for old age. Compared to 2020, this indicator increased by 1.4 p.p. At the same time, 8.7% of citizens are considering the possibility of starting to save for retirement in the next 3-5 years.

Most often, people aged 50-60 think about the financial side of old age. In this group, savings are made by 8.5% of respondents, which is twice as much as among 18-30-year-olds. More than half (51.4%) of those surveyed said that the main reason for savings was the uncertainty that the state pension would be enough for them to live comfortably. 41% of respondents would not like to reduce their usual standard of living after retirement, 5.5% create an opportunity for themselves not to work in old age, and 2.6% do not want to burden their children.

On average, Russians who save for retirement spend 7.4 thousand rubles a month on this. Almost three-quarters of the respondents (74.8%) use ruble-denominated bank deposits for savings, and 23.6% keep cash at home. Only slightly more than 5% of those saving for retirement use the services of NPFs today.

Today, 6.2 million people use non-state pension programs, but a large proportion of them are participants in corporate programs, Sergei Belyakov, president of the national association of NPFs, told Izvestia. According to him, about 2 million citizens independently form the future pension in the NPF. More than 1.5 million clients already receive a non-state pension from the NPF, its average amount is more than 4 thousand rubles a month.
