Anyone who needs a rental car during the autumn holidays will once again have to pay less than in previous years. However, the decline has lost momentum – and in Germany it is already becoming more expensive again.
Car rental prices in the most popular holiday destinations continue to fall. For trips between October 3rd and November 2nd, the cheap-mietwagen.de portal found prices to be 3.9 percent lower on average than in the same period last year. This means that the downward trend of the past year continues, albeit less strongly. In the previous year the decline was 17 percent. The evaluation was based on bookings via the portal.
However, if you compare with the time before Corona, there is a significant increase of an average of 37 percent compared to 2019. In 2021, rental car prices rose very sharply when travel and demand started again after the first phase of the pandemic and were met with greatly reduced rental car stocks. Prices still rose in 2022.
Currently, it is particularly the development in Spain, the most important rental car market for the portal’s customers, that is pushing prices down. Here the vehicles became cheaper by almost 13 percent during the period under review. In Italy – number two in terms of the number of bookings – it fell by 2.5 percent. In Greece and the USA there were increases of 3.8 and 6.1 percent. In Portugal it fell by 6.2 percent. Germany follows in 6th place atbilliger-mietwagen.de. Here the increase is very significant at 14.6 percent.
