Economic weakness: Lindner on the economy: We have to be honest

The German economy is not getting off the ground. Time for more drastic measures, says the FDP leader.

FDP leader Christian Lindner is calling for a change of course in German economic policy. “An upswing depends on confidence, willingness to perform, entrepreneurial risk and innovative strength. The framework conditions in Germany are no longer right for this,” said the Finance Minister to the German Press Agency. “Our economy has been tied up for years with bureaucracy and tax burdens, but – frankly – also with planned economic climate protection and increasing redistribution policies.” Anyone who wants prosperity and social security must find the strength to change course. “Our country has to be honest,” he demanded.

It was previously known that the federal government expected the economy to shrink again this year. “The weak growth and lack of competitiveness endanger jobs and our economic substance,” warned Lindner. “We have to take this very seriously.” Not only must the federal government’s growth initiative be implemented quickly. Additional measures are necessary. “What brings dynamism must be strengthened, what takes away dynamism must be avoided.”
