The famous tennis tournament Wimbledon announced this Wednesday that will replace lines judges with an electronic systemwhich will change the appearance of the “La Catedral” tennis courts.
These line judges, dressed in a very particular code, are as much a part of the tournament landscape as the strawberries and cream or the all-white uniform imposed on the players.
But Wimbledon now aligns with other tournaments in the world, and indicates that this change is for “balance tradition and innovation.”

The men’s tournament ATP announced in 2023 the adoption of the call of electronic line (ELC) from 2025 throughout the circuit to “optimize precision and consistency in tournaments”and the All England Club has now announced that it will make the change starting in 2025.
“This technology will be on all courts for tournament and qualifying matches and will be used to indicate ‘out’ and ‘fault’, which until now were the job of the linesmen.”says Wednesday’s statement.
The edition of Wimbledon 2025 will take place from June 30 to July 13.
