In December, fuel was 6% more expensive in the interior than in CABA

When inquiring into the liter of diesel, the average value was $95.50 in the towns of the interior, 6% more than the $90.40 of the Autonomous City. A rise of +4% was recorded in the average price. The accumulated increase since September is +6%. Only five localities have prices below the reference value.

“Regarding gasoline, there is a higher average value in the localities than in Buenos Aires. Four places show values below, while in the rest variations between 1% and 21% above were observed. Diesel oil, On the other hand, it shows an average value of 6% over the reference price of the Federal Capital, with most of the localities with prices above the national reference price. The variation over time shows us an accumulated value of 6% since September ” , indicated the sociologist Natalia Calcagno, coordinator of the project.

According to the survey, the cheapest gasoline is found in Doblas, La Pampa at $81 pesos, while María Susana, Santa Fe has a maximum of $115 pesos. As for diesel, something similar happens: General Roca, Córdoba maintains a cheaper price at $84.90 while Elena, Córdoba costs $118 pesos.

Why does price distortion occur?

As can be seen in the survey carried out by the Colsecor Foundation, the differences are not only between provinces but also between localities of the same. This is explained by several factors: the first, according to CAPEGA (Chamber of Merchants of Petroleum, Gas and Related Derivatives) is related to the cost of freight from remote areas. In addition, in the Federal Capital, the oil companies compete to obtain greater market share and to generate higher profit margins.

The exception is the Patagonian provinces, which by national law have an approximate reduction of 22% in the price of gasoline and 12% in the case of diesel.

In fact, just crossing the General Paz highway, already under the rules of the Province of Buenos Aires, the values begin to rise little by little. The further away, the higher the price. In addition, they add provincial taxes, Gross Income and municipal taxes that increase costs.

In October, the National Senator for Catamarca, Dalmacio Mera proposed to unify the price of fuels in all YPF service stations in the country. The Catamarcan legislator based his claim on article 1 of Law 26,741, which allowed YPF SA to be recovered as a flagship company. It indicates that the measure has among its objectives to guarantee the increase in the competitiveness of the various economic sectors and the equitable and sustainable growth of the provinces and regions.

In this regard, Mera affirms that the current reality in relation to fuel prices constitutes a fact that undermines the sense of promoting these objectives. “Something paradoxical happens, there is a regressive price scheme in terms of development by which the inhabitants and producers of the richest jurisdiction in the country pay up to 12 percent less for fuel than the inhabitants of other provinces,” he said.
