Regional and local transport: Transport ministers are committed to Deutschlandticket

The increase in the price of the Germany ticket is causing a wave of criticism. Nevertheless, the transport ministers continue to see the ticket as a successful model.

For the transport ministers of the federal states, the Germany ticket, which will be more expensive in the future, continues to be a successful model. The price increase by nine euros to 58 euros from 2025 is a “sheer necessity” in order to be able to finance the cost of the ticket, said North Rhine-Westphalia’s Transport Minister Oliver Krischer (Greens).

The price of 58 euros still means a drastic reduction for many people with monthly subscriptions for local transport in the three-digit range, said Krischer at the end of the transport ministers’ conference in Duisburg. In this respect, the Deutschlandticket continues to be an excellent offer. He also believes that new customers can still be won with the price increase.

Germany ticket “still attractive”

Saarland’s Transport Minister, Petra Berg (SPD), also described the Deutschlandticket as a successful model. The price-performance ratio is right. “It is still attractive and valid nationwide,” said Berg. All federal states support the Deutschlandticket.

The day before, associations and organizations protested in front of the conference hotel of the Conference of Transport Ministers against the price increase for the Germany ticket and called for a nationwide social ticket for 29 euros for people with lower incomes.

At a special conference at the end of September, the transport ministers decided that the Germany ticket, which currently costs 49 euros, should cost 58 euros per month from next year. How long this price will last remains to be seen. The condition for a long-term stable price is continued financial support from the federal government. So far, the federal and state governments are each adding around 1.5 billion euros annually.
