The steel industry in Latin America mobilizes 1.4 million direct and indirect jobs and is key in different strategic economic sectors such as construction, the automotive industry and the manufacturing of machinery and household appliances. However, it is threatened by the growing import of steel from China, which does not comply with market rules. Last year they reached a historical record, close to 10 million tons, which represents a growth of 45% and creates a critical situation for the local industry.

The reconfiguration of value chains and the trend towards regionalization open new possibilities for Latin America, which produces steel with one of the smallest carbon footprints in the world and which has a competitive and integrated metalworking value chain.

Since 1962, the Alacero congress became the main meeting for the value chain of the Latin American steel industry.
