More than a quarter of small and medium-sized businesses admit the possibility of closing in 2022 if the economic situation persists or worsens, this is the best indicator in the last three years. This is stated in a study by PSB, conducted jointly with Opora Rossii and the Magram Market Research agency (Izvestia has it). The worst situation is observed in the microbusiness segment, where 40% of entrepreneurs announced a reduction in revenue.
According to a survey within the RSBI index (SME business activity index in Russia), in which 1835 entrepreneurs took part, 19% of respondents allow the closure of a business this year “if the current economic situation worsens” (17% a year ago). 7% consider such a prospect while maintaining current economic trends (10% a year ago). At the same time, in 2019, in total, almost a third (32%) of SME representatives allowed their business to be closed. 74% of respondents, respectively, rejected the possibility of business termination in 2022 under any economic development scenario.
43% of entrepreneurs reported an increase in revenue compared to 2020. In the segments of medium and small businesses, the majority are 56% and 54%, respectively. But in the niche of microbusiness (up to 15 employees and up to 120 million rubles of revenue per year), which is much larger quantitatively, there are only 29% of them, and 40% of microenterprises reported a decrease in revenue.
The Ministry of Economy noted that the indicators of SMEs in 2021 indicate its gradual recovery and return to pre-pandemic levels. In 2021, 1.02 million new enterprises were opened, which is almost 20% more than in 2020, the department specified. They pointed out that the recovery of small businesses is also associated with anti-crisis measures: the total amount of credit support for the three payroll programs exceeded 0.5 trillion rubles, assistance was provided to 5.7 million employees.
