For many people, a Christmas tree is as much a part of the celebration as a good meal and presents. According to the industry association, there is no shortage of the crop. And the price will probably increase moderately at best.
According to the industry association, the price of the Christmas tree has increased slightly this year. “The prices range between 22 euros and 30 euros per meter of Nordmann fir,” said the Federal Association of Christmas Tree Growers in Germany. This is one euro more than in the previous year. However, the prices depend on the region, the location and size of the companies and the location where the trees are sold.
“A tree in the city center in Munich will be more expensive for the consumer than from the farm in the Odenwald,” emphasized a spokeswoman. “That’s why we’re always careful to really talk about price corridors.”
According to the association based in Wiebelsheim (Rhineland-Palatinate), 23 to 25 million Christmas trees are sold nationwide every year. Of these, around 19 million come from Germany, the rest are imported from Denmark and other countries. “Among the natural Christmas trees, the Nordmann fir continues to be the most popular tree among Germans.”
The summer was very good for conifers, the spokeswoman said. “The weather cooperated in most regions of Germany this year.” It rained enough. “So everyone who wants a natural Christmas tree can get one.”
Eberhard Hennecke, chairman of the Christmas tree growers specialist group in the North Rhine-Westphalia Horticultural Association, said that North Rhine-Westphalia is still the largest contiguous Christmas tree growing area in Germany. Most of the trees are grown in the Sauerland.
