The Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrichstated this Friday that they have identified the operational head of the Lebanese group Hezbollah in Latin America who would have participated in the attacks on the Jewish mutual AMIA already Israeli Embassy.
“That is no longer a ghost name: it is about Hussein Ahmad Karakiknown by his aliases “Abu Ali”, “Rami” and “Saad Az Aldin”, Bullrich stated in a press conference to local and international media.
He later added that Karaki “was behind the attacks on the Israeli Embassy and the AMIAwho bought the car bomb and was the operational chief in direct line with Hassan Nasrallah (secretary general of Hezbollah), who recently died.”

The finding is fruit of a joint work between SIDE and the Ministry of National Security within the framework of international cooperation with those countries that have a judicial case initiated for terrorist attacks.
According to the Minister of Security, Karaki is accused of recruiting and planning the 1994 AMIA and 1992 Israeli Embassy attacks.. Starting in the 2000s, it would be the reference point for the convergence to recruit members of crime or former prisoners, in the frustrated attacks of Trapiche I and II in Brazil, in Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, among other terrorist actions.
During the conference, Bullrich was accompanied by Carlos Ferrer Picado, national director of Criminal Intelligence of the Ministry of Security and the head of the SIDE, Sergio Neiffert.
They will ask for Lebanon’s collaboration
Bullrich announced that the Government will send a letter to the Lebanese Embassy to request its collaboration to clarify the attacks on the AMIA and the Israeli Embassy and prevent new attacks.
The Attorney General’s Office, with whom they are already working, will also be asked to determine the means to carry out the international capture of Karaki through the issuance of an Interpol Red Circular and thus be able to try him in absentia.

Bullrich noted that they managed to determine that Karaki entered Argentina in January 1992.. Before, he would have visited our country, Brazil and Paraguay between 1990 and 1991 to prepare the attack on the Israeli Embassy. On one of the trips he recruited José Suleiman in São Paulo (Brazil) to smuggle explosives and entered Argentina with a Colombian document under the name of Alberto León Naím.

The minister assured that the intelligence agencies lost track of Karaki after the attacks in Argentina and only three decades later was he heard from again. He is believed to have been behind other attacks in Colombia, Peru and Brazil.
