Faced with the protest of citizens who were going to considerably lose their money deposited in bank accounts due to to the playpenOn October 26, 2004, the Supreme Court of the Nation validated the mandatory conversion of dollar deposits to pesos. This measure was taken because four savers had initiated an amparo lawsuit for a value of 1,334,110 million dollars.
The ruling was approved by five of the six members of the court, and disapproved by the thousands of Argentines who were protesting in front of the courts. This validated pesification by emphasizing “the economic emergency that the country was experiencing when this measure was applied”.
