62 percent of the companies currently rate their business situation as positive, in the previous year it was only 37 percent. These figures come from the semi-annual SME barometer by the consulting firm Ernst & Young (EY). 600 companies were surveyed.
“Everyone whines a bit, but only individual sectors, such as tourism, are doing dramatically badly. There are full order books in industry and commerce,” says Eric Lehner, EY site manager in Linz. In a comparison of the federal states, Upper Austria is in the best position because industry is the driving force behind the recovery.
Small and medium-sized businesses would also have benefited from state aid measures such as short-time work. Nevertheless, the testimony to how politicians are dealing with the corona crisis is poor. Only about a quarter of the companies give the grade “very good” or “good”. According to the survey, one in five companies does not consider the economic and political handling of the crisis to be sufficient.
