Trade resets margins on basic goods

The Verny retail chain has limited the trade margin for more than 200 essential goods from the basic food basket. This was told to Izvestia in the company. They added that the measure affected bread, dairy products, pasta, cereals, sausages, chicken meat and more.

“Buyers will be able to purchase these goods at the purchase price or with a minimum margin, the upper limit of which will be limited to 10%,” the retail chain said.

At Lenta, the margin on socially important goods does not exceed 10%, and the lower level can reach zero, the company’s press service told Izvestia. For some time now, Auchan has been applying a minimum trade margin, and the retailer sells some products from the list of socially significant retailers at a price below the purchase price, the network said. They clarified that they were talking about vegetables, sugar, sunflower oil and other goods.

At the beginning of the year, it became known that the two largest grocery chains in the Russian Federation voluntarily decided to limit their markup on goods. The X5 group said that from January 12 until the end of the year, the markup for 20 product categories will not exceed 10%. The company will determine the specific products on a monthly basis. The trading network notified the FAS about this. Magnit is ready to take a similar step – to fix the markup at a level of no more than 10% for essential goods, the company told the regulator. We are talking about about 200 positions from 25 categories, the company told Izvestia. They added that the share of these products could reach 30-40% of the turnover of socially important goods in monetary terms.

Now retailers are finalizing their proposals, FAS is waiting for their final versions for further evaluation, Izvestia was told in the service. In general, the department supports initiatives for the responsible behavior of companies, they added.
