The railway has to save money and is cutting thousands of jobs in the next few years. However, according to an employee survey, the corporate crisis is only having a small impact on the mood of employees.
According to an employee survey, the profound crisis at Deutsche Bahn has only a minor impact on the mood of employees. The employee satisfaction index across the group has only fallen slightly by 0.1 to 3.8 points compared to the survey from two years ago, the railway said. The value is on a scale between 0 and 5 points, with the highest score representing the best possible mood.
Human Resources Director: A good result given the situation
Accordingly, around two thirds of those surveyed fully or somewhat agreed with the statement that, overall, they were satisfied with their own work. 60 percent even said they were proud or somewhat proud of working for the railway. According to the company, almost 60 percent of employees took part in the survey.
“In view of the current situation, this is really a good result,” said Human Resources Director Martin Seiler. “This commitment provides a strong foundation for the company’s ongoing transformation.” The railway did not provide results for individual business areas, such as the particularly badly hit freight transport subsidiary DB Cargo.
A few weeks ago, the ailing railway launched a comprehensive renovation program called S3. The main goals are more reliability on the rails and financial viability until 2027. In addition to a new construction concept and comprehensive renovations, thousands of jobs are to be eliminated over the next few years, initially at the administrative level.
The group has been conducting an employee survey every two years since 2012. The average satisfaction ratings have so far fluctuated between 3.6 and 3.9 out of 5 points.
