Botafogo was defeated 3-1 by Penarol this Wednesday in Montevideo, for the second leg of the semifinals, but with an aggregate of 6-3 they will play the final of the Libertadores Cup for their crushing 5-0 win in the first leg in Rio de Janeiro.
The Aurinegros’ goals were scored by Jaime Báez, at 30 and 55 minutes, and Facundo Batista at 89, while Thiago Almadaat 88, scored for Fogao.
Botafogo will face another Brazilian, Atlético Mineiro, in the single-match Cup final on November 30 in Buenos Aires. It was stipulated that the decisive duel would be played at the Monumental, but after the fall of River and given the possibility that the stands will not be full, there is a chance to change the venue, always in the same city.
This will be the sixth Copa Libertadores final between two Brazilian teams. In addition, for the sixth consecutive edition, the five-time world champion country will compete in the continent’s top club tournament: Flamengo in 2019 and 2022, Palmeiras in 2020 and 2021 and Fluminense in 2023.
