“This is a book that we love and we felt that there was still a lot of story to tell,” the director of the two films based on the work of Stephen KingAndy Muschietti, and his producing partner and sister, Barbara. “It’s so rich in characters and events that we thought we’d do the book and the fans justice by returning to this world. Specifically, we’re telling the stories of the interludeswritten by Mike Hanlon based on his research that includes interviews he conducts with the city’s seniors. In Welcome to Derry, we touch on the usual themes discussed in the film: friendship, loss, the power of unified belief, but This story also focuses on the use of fear as a weaponwhich is one of the things that is also relevant to our times.”

What is the story that will be told in Welcome to Derry
The Muschietti duo, who developed the series with the screenwriter of It Chapter Two, Jason Fuchschanged the timeline of his It films a few decades after the setting of King’s book. So IT: Welcome to Derry follow the same path. The main story takes place in 1962, which is the year the Black Spot fire burned, while the book sets that particular tragedy in the 1930s. That means we’re 27 years before the events of the first It movie. of the filmmakers, in which Chosen Jacobs he played little Mike Hanlon, a role he took on as an adult in the sequel Isaiah Mustafa.
“Twenty-seven years is Pennywise’s period of torpor,” the Muschiettis write. “It’s a different part of American history with a new set of fears for children, as well as for adults who keep in mind the cost of the Cold War. Our baseline is 1962, but we make some jumps back in time. “Every 27 years, when it appears, its cycle is marked by two catastrophic events, one at the beginning and one at the end. We are using the Black Spot as an event around which many stories are built.”
Jovan Adepo and Taylor Paige lead a cast of actors that includes the return of Bill Skarsgård like Pennywise, as well as newcomers to It Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe and Rudy Mancuso.
Welcome to Derry will arrive on Max and HBO sometime in 2025.
