Recall campaign of superlatives: Coca Cola warns about its lemonades
“A possible health risk” triggers a huge recall campaign from Coca Cola. The affected bottles are said to have also come onto the market in Germany.
Coca Cola is recalling nearly 30 million bottles of soda because of possible health risks. 0.5 liter PET plastic bottles of numerous of the group’s products are affected: Coca Cola, Coca Cola Zero, Coca Zero Lemon, Coca Cola Zero Sugar Zero Caffeine, Coca Cola Light, Fanta Orange, Fanta Orange Zero, Fanta Lemon Zero, Fanta Exotic Zero, Sprite, Sprite Zero, Mezzo Mix).
According to the company, the affected batches can be identified by the best-before date between February 4, 2025 and April 12, 2025 and the code “WP” below the date printed on the label.
According to the manufacturer, there was a technical error in the production of the drinks, which could have caused small pieces of metal to get into the bottles. “We advise against consuming the potentially affected products due to possible health risks.” The error apparently went unnoticed for months – and has now resulted in what may be the largest recall of its kind in the company’s history.
Coca Cola recall also in Germany
The bottles were primarily distributed in Austria, but according to the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, they came onto the market in Germany. The federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Bandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia are affected. The warning includes beverage bottles delivered to both retailers and restaurants. It is not known how many of these have already reached end consumers.
