Ahead of what could already be a decisive round of negotiations, IG Metall is continuing its warning strikes. The activities are limited at the beginning of the second week.
IG Metall has continued its warning strikes in several federal states in the collective bargaining dispute in the metal and electrical industries. Around 30,000 employees nationwide took part in the protests, as the union board in Frankfurt reported. In the first four days, 216,000 people took part.
A negotiation date has been scheduled for next Monday (November 11th) in Hamburg, at which a pilot agreement could possibly be agreed with the employers. IG Metall has commissioned the district heads of the coastal and Bavarian tariff districts to do this.
The largest protest on Monday took place at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen. Around 10,000 employees stopped work at 8:30 a.m. and gathered for a rally, as IG Metall Stuttgart announced. In addition, night shift workers were called to strike on Monday evening. There were further work stoppages in Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. On Tuesday, IG Metall wants to call on more members to go on a warning strike.
The union is demanding seven percent more wages for the 3.9 million employees nationwide with a contract term of one year. So far, after nine months of zero, employers are offering a tariff increase of 1.7 percent from July 2025 and a further 1.9 percent from July 2026, with a contract term of 27 months. After rapprochements in the third round, a quick collective bargaining agreement seems possible.
