In a recent Polymarket poll, bets predict that President-elect Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated in January 2025, is more likely to forgive the insurrectionists who took over the Capitol on January 6 when Joe Biden took office as president than the founder of Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht.
However, the official “X” account calling for Ulbricht’s release wrote: “ROSS WILL BE COMING HOME IN JANUARY! We are very grateful to @realDonaldTrump for his commitment to #FreeRoss and to all those who have supported us. Let’s drink because This 12th Thanksgiving in prison may be the last! – The Ulbricht Family.”
In the Polymarket poll titled “Who Will Trump Pardon?”, Ulbricht has an 83% chance of receiving a pardon, while the Capitol insurrectionists—who stormed the U.S. Capitol in January 2021 to disrupt the Joe Biden’s inauguration—they have an 89% chance.
And Trump had previously promised to free the founder of Silk Road after Ulbricht sentenced to life in prison for operating Silk Roadan anonymous e-commerce platform known for illegal narcotics trafficking.
The sentence
Since his sentencing, Ulbricht has expressed remorse, and his case has received notable support from members of the cryptocurrency community.
After the Jan. 6 riot, in which six people were killed and 174 first responders were injured, Trump became the first U.S. president to be impeached twice, once for inciting insurrection. According to a January 2024 press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, an estimated 1,265 people were charged in connection with the attack.

The survey also names other potential pardon recipients, including FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, Breitbart executive Steve Bannon, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, and himself. Trump.
Donald Trump promises cryptocurrency-friendly regulations
The Republican nominee, who recently launched his family’s cryptocurrency platform, World Liberty Financial, last September, expressed his support for digital assets while campaigning for the 2024 US presidential election.
Trump has since promised to implement a cryptocurrency-friendly regulatory framework across the United States and remove controversial US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler upon returning to the White House.
“We will have regulations,” Trump declared at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference, adding, “but from now on, the rules will be written by the people who love their industry, not by those who hate it.”
Defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris had attempted to appeal to cryptocurrency voters in the weeks leading up to the election, albeit without success.
Donald Trump’s inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025.
