5.1 percent more money within a good two years: The pilot collective agreement from the area could also work for VW. But IG Metall wants additional efforts.
According to IG Metall, the pilot collective agreement for the metal and electrical industries could also help solve the problem for the ailing car manufacturer VW. “This is a conclusion that can unleash imagination as to how VW could at least solve the issues on which we have agreed,” says the first chairwoman of the union, Christiane Benner.
She points out that in the recent past at VW the wage result was taken over from the area. The approximately 120,000 employees in the Volkswagen AG plants have their own collective agreement, which is currently being negotiated. There, too, 7 percent more money was required for a term of twelve months, as was the case elsewhere. At the same time, management has presented an extensive savings program that could see factories closed and thousands of employees lose their jobs.
The works council and IG Metall are striving for a solution without layoffs and plant closures. An agreement just on salary is not enough, said Benner. She said: “But then there are also structural issues where we need bold action from politicians but also from the company – including model policy within the group.”
