Union: Significantly more money for roofers

The job high on roofs can be dangerous. Now roofers should get significantly more money. A wage difference between East and West was also eliminated.

According to the union, the approximately 100,000 roofers in Germany will receive significantly more money in the future. In the third round of negotiations, a collective agreement was agreed with the Central Association of the German Roofing Trade, said the industrial union IG BAU in Frankfurt.

Accordingly, wages and salaries for roofers should increase by 3.8 percent on December 1st, by 2.7 percent on October 1, 2025 and again by 3.4 percent a year later. The term ends on September 30, 2027.

This means that the journeyman’s wage will rise over the term from 21.12 euros to 23.28 euros per hour, explained IG BAU. Training allowances are also set to increase: from October 1, 2026, junior staff will receive 1,050 euros per month in the first year of training, 1,200 euros in the second year and 1,460 euros in the third. “This is an appropriate and fair increase for an often challenging and sometimes dangerous job,” said IG-BAU negotiator Carsten Burckhardt. Furthermore, the 13th monthly income of roofers should increase, so that 89 hourly wages are paid extra nationwide.

The collective bargaining parties must finally agree to the result by November 26th at the latest. A spokeswoman for the employers’ association confirmed the conclusion, but referred to this declaration deadline.
