Born in 1910 in San Miguel de Tucumán, Alberdi is considered one of the most important intellectuals in the nation. His most important work, Bases and starting points for the political organization of the Argentine Republic, was a key support for the drafting of the National Constitution of 1853.

Finally the BCRA launched the new higher denomination banknotes and, how could it be otherwise, Alberdi was the hero chosen to appear on the obverse of the banknote. For his part, the reverse is illustrated by the intellectual’s house Argentine, located in Tucumán.
Born in 1810, in San Miguel de Tucumán, Alberdi moved to Buenos Aires at the age of 14. In 1831 he would begin his training at the University of Buenos Aires, where he entered to study Law. However, his confrontation with another hero, Juan Manuel de Rosasforced him to move to Córdoba.
There the man from Tucumán finally graduated and also deepened his love for music. In 1832 he wrote his work called “the spirit of music.”
At the beginning of 1834 and after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in law, Alberdi joined a group of young intellectuals who met at the Marcos Sastre bookstore in Buenos Aires.. This group, which included figures such as Juan María Gutiérrez and Esteban Echeverría, founded the Literary Salon in 1835, a key space for the dissemination of political ideas inspired by European romanticism.
Lawyer, economist and politician, Alberdi was never able to become president of the nation. However, he left a greater legacy: His book Bases and points of departure for the political organization of the Argentine Republic was a very influential work when drafting the National Constitution of 1853.
Considered one of the most important liberal thinkers in our country, the Government has highlighted his figure on numerous occasions. That is why now, with the announcement of the BCRA, the libertarian management promoted the image of Alberdi to occupy the new tickets.
The new bill in circulation
The Central Bank (BCRA) put the $20,000 bill into circulation this Wednesday, November 13 and announced that it will be distributed starting tomorrow through the network of bank branches and ATMs throughout the country. In this way, it becomes the one with the highest denomination in the local market (a place that, until now, was occupied by the $10,000 denomination).
The design reflects a paper with green yellow and blue tints that has the image of Juan Bautista Alberdi on his forehead. In this way the family is completed “Heroines and Heroes of the Homeland” created in 2022.
The choice of Alberdi is not coincidental: the hero, vindicated on repeated occasions by characters from La Libertad Avanza, was the inspirer of the National Constitution of 1853. The reverse illustrates the recreation of the birthplace of that lawyer, writerArgentine journalist, philosopher, economist, diplomat and politician.
