The opposition made a request in Deputies to question Gerardo Werthein for the votes at the UN

The deputy of Union for the Homeland (UP) Mónica Macha This Friday he presented a request for interpellation to the chancellor Gerardo Werthein to explain in Congress the votes that Argentina carried out at the UN against the elimination of gender-based violence, the rights of indigenous peoples and measures against climate change.

What Milei voted for in the United Nations is nonsense. While the entire world votes in favor of the fight against gender violence, Milei sends his chancellor to vote against it. It is serious and it is dangerous,” said the opposition legislator.

In that sense, he highlighted that ““The Government sends a message that produces violence and that has concrete effects on the situation in our country.” because, he said, “it is not free to go against the world.”

“We were a model country in gender legislation, we were at the forefront of the feminist struggle and today we suffer an ultra-conservative reaction that will take a lot of work to recover. “The Government is leaving Argentina out of global agendas,” he insisted.

In addition to the request for interpellation, Macha presented two statements of repudiation to the votes against the elimination of gender violence and the rights of indigenous peoples. legislators like Cecilia Moreau, Carlos Castagneto, Sabrina Selva, Gabriela Pedrali and Magali Mastaleramong others, accompanied the initiatives.

In turn, Deputy Macha recalled through a statement that Argentina is a signatory of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, which has among its fundamental objectives the fight against climate change.

In that sense, he expressed that “in a global context in which climate change represents a threat to the lives of millions of peopleespecially for the most vulnerable populations, Argentina’s abstention in this vote sends a contradictory message regarding its commitment to environmental protection and climate justice.”

Finally, regarding the vote against the elimination of gender violence, Macha pointed out that “Women and girls face increasing risks in the digital sphere, such as cyberbullying, online threats and exposure of private images without consent.”
