But no opening in 2024: Taco Bell postpones plans for Germany

The fast food chain Taco Bell wanted to open its first branches in Germany this year. Nothing will come of it. The first restaurant should not be ready until summer 2025.

The American fast food chain Taco Bell is coming to Germany later than planned. The first restaurant in Berlin is no longer scheduled to open in 2024, but rather in the summer of 2025, as the franchise company İş Holding (ISH) announced when asked by the German Press Agency.

“There were delays, so unfortunately it won’t work as quickly as expected. But our construction department is working on the implementation,” said a spokesman. He did not want to provide any precise information about the number of Taco Bell branches that are scheduled to open in Germany next year.

In May, ISH boss İlkem Şahin announced: “Our goal is 25 branches this year and 100 to 150 in the next five years.” In the summer he wanted to open the first restaurant in Berlin.

Taco Bell is currently only available in US barracks in Germany

There are currently no real branches in Germany, but only three locations in US barracks that are not open to the public. Like KFC and Pizza Hut, Taco Bell belongs to the American catering group “Yum! Brands”.

Sub-rights for other countries are granted to franchise partners. In addition to Taco Bell, the company İş Holding also owns the franchise rights for the Pizza Hut and KFC chains as well as Krispy Kreme in Germany.

Taco Bell’s focus is on Tex-Mex snacks, a mix of Mexican and American cuisine. The chain was founded in the USA in 1962. According to its own information, Taco Bell operates more than 7,200 restaurants in the USA through various franchises.

Internationally there are around another 1,000 branches in over 30 countries. In Europe, the brand is represented in the Netherlands, Spain and Great Britain, among others.
