Police: Clearance of Tesla protest camp completed

For the third day in a row, height rescuers were on duty because of environmental activists in Grünheide. The police were now able to clear the Tesla protest camp near the car factory.

According to their own information, the police have finished clearing the protest camp of Tesla opponents in Grünheide near Berlin. A police spokesman said that high-altitude rescuers took eleven activists out of the trees today. The evacuation is now complete. According to police, there were no injuries.

Now the area will be searched for explosive ordnance. How long this would take was unclear. Only when it was clear that there were no dangerous weapons in the ground would the environmental activists’ tree houses be brought down, said the police spokesman. Emergency services are initially still on site to provide security.

The police had been on duty in the protest camp since Monday and broke up the entire meeting on Tuesday. However, some activists refused to climb down from the trees voluntarily. The reason for the police operation was the search for explosive ordnance, which was initiated by the community of Grünheide.

For almost nine months, environmental activists have occupied a forest in Grünheide near Berlin – in protest against Elon Musk’s only European Tesla car factory.
