Uruguay live the last hours of the electoral campaign for the 2024 runoff in which Yamandu Orsifrom the Broad Front (FA) or Alvaro Delgado (National Party) will be elected President of the Republic for the period 2025-2030.
Sunday’s election comes in an unprecedented scenario of technical tie according to the last measurement carried out and that corresponds to the surveyor Figurealthough previous surveys from the rest of the consulting firms also showed a forecast of parity.
Orsi would obtain 47% of the votes according to that projection, while Delgado, who has managed to capitalize on a good part of the support that the rest of the candidates of the Coalitionit would reach 46%.

If fulfilled, a wait is even expected until the last vote is counted to officially know who will succeed Luis Lacalle Pou. To give a complete example of the sensitive parity between the two candidates, it is only worth mentioning that the public opinion companies recommended to the Electoral Court release preliminary results later than usual, with scrutiny more advanced.
The next few hours will be key for both campaigns in their attempts to break that tie. Although the bulk of the campaign has already passed, it is also true that there is some loot up for grabs: the undecidedestimated at around 5%. That segment of the electorate defines its vote during the 24 hours prior to the election.
Those votes, both Wide Front like the Coalition, have looked for them in the interior of Uruguay. The coalitionists took over and on the same Monday after the first round, white senators began to tour the departments. Then followed, in relevant districts, the visits of Delgado, his running mate, Valeria Ripolland the leaders of the rest of the forces.

The Frente Amplio, dominant in the metropolitan area, also summoned figures and legislators to the departments. And Orsi dedicated the highlight of his campaign closing speech to those regions. “I am a true Canarian, but in this campaign, visiting every corner, I met the Uruguay of the interior, which cries out for us to bring the solutions,” he said.
The electoral polarization modified the tone of the campaign in recent days. After several days of strong disagreements between the Orsi and Delgado teams –mainly due to the economic plans and policies applied during the current administration-, the two leaders digested the situation and opened the game to an also unprecedented exchange of invitations. .
The white candidate was eager to add his rival and figures from the Frente Amplio to an eventual government. On the other side they responded to the kindness with the offer of Ministry of Industry.
But while the candidates tried new rhetoric, in the background the two undisputed leaders of each political force remained active, polarizing. A Jose Mujica verbose he launched it against the Uruguayan caste and, in particular, against Lacalle Pou. The President of the Republic, who walked the limit of what was constitutional during the campaign, responded. The background sound continued to be that of the confrontation.
