The auto industry is deep in crisis. This affects the suppliers – including Bosch. In addition to the cuts in thousands of jobs, many employees in Germany will have their working hours reduced.
In addition to cutting thousands of jobs, the technology group Bosch is also relying on shorter weekly working hours in Germany to reduce costs for some of its employees. A total of around 10,000 employees are affected, including at the Abstatt, Holzkirchen, Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Schwieberdingen, Hildesheim, Leonberg, Renningen, Schwäbisch Gmünd and Gerlingen-Schillerhöhe locations, as a spokeswoman said upon request.
Most of the affected employees currently have contracts that provide for a weekly working time of 38 to 40 hours. With the reduction in working hours, the salary also decreases accordingly. The company had already announced the compulsory reduction in working hours in the past.
Criticism of the approach came from the works council head of the supply division, Frank Sell, who is also the deputy head of the supervisory board of the foundation company. “Due to the company’s unilateral intervention in employee pay, we have also reached a new low in our cooperation with management,” said Sell. This puts social peace in the company at risk. “We will now organize our resistance to these plans at all levels.”
In view of the crisis in the automotive industry, the supplier Bosch wants to cut more jobs than previously known. In the coming years, there will be a further “need for adjustment” of up to 5,550 jobs worldwide, as the company recently announced. More than two thirds of these – a total of 3,800 jobs – are to be eliminated in Germany.
