Some artifacts, due to their complexity, represent advances or solutions to very important problems, others do not.

Although the mind of an inventor must be creative and sometimes it takes great ingenuity and knowledge to develop useful and complex products that help people, other times a simple stick that can hold a cell phone or camera is enough.

Thus was born the “Selfie Stick” or Selfie stickwhich is nothing more than that, a stick. This device allowed people the possibility of taking selfies beyond the limit that their arms allowed, achieving further angles and allowing the inclusion of more people in it.

How the Selfie Stick (Quik Pod) originated

Its creation is strongly associated with people’s narcissism and that is why some nickname it the “narcisstick.” Its origin could go back many years. For example, In 1983 the Minota Disc-7 camera had a mirror on the front to allow the composition of self-portraits and in its box you could see the camera mounted on a stick.

Newly In 1995, the selfie stick appeared in a book called “101 Useless Japanese Inventions”. And then, in 2005, Canadian Wayne Fromm patented his Quick Pod, which is the product we know today. Finally, the product was included among Time magazine’s 25 best inventions in 2014.

An invention that prospered ten years later

In 2005 Wayne Fromm was able to finish his prototype and create the Quick Pod. But sales at first were not as expected. Apparently society was not ready for such a product. It was only in 2014, when the selfie craze began, the moment they took off and the selfie stick was placed by Times magazine as one of the 25 best inventions of today.

AND For the year 2015 it was one of the best-selling products on Amazonreaching figures of millions of dollars.
