The studio and Nolan’s sequel to his Oscar-winning drama Oppenheimer They project a production start date sometime in the first half of 2025. Universal has set a July 17, 2026 theatrical release date for the film, along with a dedicated release in Imax auditoriums.

Although the film marks Nolan and Theron’s first collaboration, Theron has a long history with Universal, having starred in the action thriller Atomic Blonde (for the specialty label Focus Features), the films Snow White and the Huntsman, A million ways to die in the Westand as the villainess Cipher in multiple installments of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, including Fast and Furious of 2023.
Outside of the studio, the South African actress, producer and philanthropist’s credits include her Oscar-winning role in Monster, as well as her Oscar-nominated roles in Bombshell and North Countryin addition to Furiosa’s iconic role in Mad Max: Fury Road. Theron’s current projects in the works include a sequel to the Netflix action film The Old Guard and the thriller Apexas well as the heist movie Two for the Money at Apple.
