International union protest against Amazon
On Black Friday, unions want to mobilize again against Amazon. After years of protests, it is expected to be the largest action to date.
On Black Friday, trade unions want to hold an international protest to draw attention to what they see as poor pay and the grievances at the Amazon Group. There should be 60 actions in 30 countries, according to the service union Verdi and the global umbrella organization of the union in the service sector Uni global. The central international campaign will take place at the location in Bad Hersfeld, Hesse. Around 1,200 strikers from several Amazon locations are expected to come together in two protest marches in an event hall. There will be greetings from several countries.
“We want legally binding collective agreements that don’t exist,” said Verdi federal board member Silke Zimmer. It’s also about good and healthy work. They want to use the busiest day of the year for sales to draw attention to the grievances and lack of tariffs at the global company.
For more than ten years, Verdi has been unsuccessfully demanding that the US company recognize the applicable collective agreements for the retail and mail order sectors and conclude a collective agreement. According to its own information, the group operates 23 large logistics centers in Germany and argues that it offers its employees fair wages with additional benefits.
