The emotional mural of Maradona, Messi and the World Cup

Four years after the passage to immortality Diego Armando Maradonahis face appears everywhere. In a corner, in a T-shirt and, of course, on a soccer field, the place where he was happiest. The Legends Stadium field decided to honor him with a giant mural where he can be seen next to Lionel Messi lifting the world cup.

“Many people see the mural and are moved. Both Diego and Messi represent the greatest joys of Argentines. A country that is very beautiful, with very beautiful customs, where a lot was suffered and these 2 soccer stars gave us some of the most beautiful joys. People are moved by the mural, many cry when they see it,” says Pedro Buero, one of the owners of the courts located on the Salta 1054 court in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución whose Instagram is @estadiodeleyendas. The mural went viral on social networks.

Q: Why did you choose to make a mural of Diego and Messi?

I think that the image of Diego and Messi together is the one that we would all have wanted to see, Maradona alive in the 2022 World Cup. Maradona and Messi are two legends. I think the final idea was to capture in a drawing the image that we all dreamed of in our minds after Argentina won the World Cup, right? I absolutely believe that Maradona’s spirit was there that day and they both raised the cup.

Q: What do you think people feel when they come to play on this field and see the mural?

Many people see the mural and are moved. Both Diego and Messi represent the greatest joys of Argentines. A country that is very beautiful, with very beautiful customs, where a lot was suffered and these 2 soccer stars gave us some of the most beautiful joys. People are moved by the mural, many cry when they see it.

Q: Did you do it for a marketing reason or do you really have a feeling that unites you with Diego and Messi? Because?

Beyond the marketing that undoubtedly influences, I chose Diego and Messi for what they represent: the joy they brought us all. The desire to see them raise a glass together. It is a reality that people enter the field with another impetus, they enter the field happy.

Q: It has been 4 years since Maradona’s death, what feeling does the date generate in you?

Sometimes I don’t fall, because one has it so present that I don’t feel like it’s not here. It hurts a lot, he is a person who was always there, who never stayed silent, who always thought about people who don’t have opportunities. Diego represents the struggle, the growth of a person. It is the passion of giving everything, it is the love for one’s mother, there are many things that represent Diego. After 4 years, I pretend it didn’t happen because I would like to have it for life.

Q: What do you think Diego’s political position would be with the current situation that Argentina is going through?

Diego, in this moment that we Argentines are going through where people are rowing it day by day, would be very present. I would take care of the kids with this SAD thing. He knows that the clubs are there to defend the kids and he would defend that to the death. It is support for the kids, it is training for the kids, that should never be lost. Soccer integrates, we make friends with soccer and on the field we forget about the problems we have outside to become teammates.
