Nationwide customs raid on shipping and cleaning companies
It’s about tax evasion and embezzlement of salaries amounting to millions: around 500 investigators have been searching apartments and company premises nationwide since morning.
Because of suspicion of tax evasion and misappropriation of wages in the shipping and cleaning industries, hundreds of customs investigators have been searching homes and business premises nationwide since morning. The main customs office in Munich said that around 400 customs officers and 100 tax investigators were deployed at around 70 objects. The focus of the campaign is the Bavarian capital.
According to a spokesman for the authority, several companies are the focus of the investigation. A main suspect was arrested this morning. When asked, it initially remained unclear what function he performed and how many other suspects there were in the investigation. Investigations have been going on for several months and customs officials assume that the damage will amount to several million euros.
After the searches, the investigators will probably spend some time evaluating the seized documents, computers and smartphones. The main customs office did not want to provide further details, citing the ongoing proceedings.
