The discount campaigns around Black Friday arouse desire. A survey shows how much time consumers take to hunt for bargains – and how much money they budget for it.
Consumers invest a lot of time hunting for bargains on Black Friday. People who are interested in the discount spend an average of seven hours searching and purchasing offers. This emerges from a representative survey by the digital association Bitkom among almost 1,200 people.
Around 60 percent of those surveyed want to take advantage of the Black Friday promotions. According to Bitkom, almost every second person even looks for bargains during working hours. One in five admits to having made impulse purchases around the promotional days that he or she later regretted.
Black Friday falls on November 29th this year. However, many retailers also offer numerous products at reduced prices days and weeks in advance. Of those who want to shop for this occasion, about one in two already know what they want to spend. According to the survey, men are much more willing to spend money. They budget an average of 324 euros, women 237 euros.
Black Friday, whose name has several possible explanations, has its origins in the USA. There, the bridge day after Thanksgiving, the fourth Thursday in November, marks the start of the Christmas business.
