Effect of heating oil demand: upward trend in fuel prices is solidifying

Petrol and diesel have become more expensive again. There is now a clear upward trend, especially for self-ignition fuel.

Refueling is becoming more expensive again. Within a week, the prices for premium E10 gasoline and diesel rose by 1.3 cents, as the ADAC announced. The nationwide daily average on Tuesday was E10 at 1.668 euros per liter, diesel at 1.608 euros. For diesel, it is the fourth weekly increase in a row. There was a minimal decline in gasoline the week before last, but over the course of three weeks there was also a significant increase of 2.1 cents per liter.

The gap between diesel and petrol is currently comparatively small at 6 cents. The tax advantage for diesel is actually a good 20 cents; historically, differences around 15 cents were typical. The fact that it is currently rather smaller may also have to do with the time of year. Because heating oil and diesel are almost identical, the higher demand for heating oil in the winter months often results in diesel prices being rather high compared to gasoline.
