Violation of EU law: EU Commission: fine of millions against fashion house Pierre Cardin

Almost two years ago, the EU Commission started an investigation into a French and a German fashion company. The result: a fine worth millions.

The EU Commission has imposed a fine of millions on the fashion house Pierre Cardin and its licensee, the Ahlers Group. According to the information, Pierre Cardin from France has to pay almost 2.3 million euros and the German men’s fashion manufacturer Ahlers 3.5 million euros. According to the Brussels authorities, they have unlawfully restricted competition. Ahlers was the largest licensee of Pierre Cardin in the European Economic Area, it was said. The illegal practices prevented retailers from freely purchasing products at lower prices and artificially closed off the internal market.

In July 2023 it was announced that the Röther Group, based in Baden-Württemberg, would take over Ahlers and continue business operations with the brands Pierre Cardin, Baldessarini, Pioneer Jeans and Pioneer Workwear.
