Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been head of the World Trade Organization (WTO) since 2021. The members are apparently happy with her.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) will be headed by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for another four years. The Council of Members has confirmed the Nigerian for a second term. The economist came to the WTO in 2021.
The organization advocates for more free world trade, which should contribute to the well-being of all countries. However, negotiations on new agreements are making little progress due to deep rifts between the countries. Most recently, the 166 member states managed to agree on a restriction on fishing subsidies.
Ngozi was, among other things, Finance and Foreign Minister of Nigeria and worked for a long time at the World Bank in Washington.
