The good weather brought a lot of traffic to the city centers on Black Friday. Three cities in particular recorded particularly large increases in footfall.
There was a lot of activity in many German pedestrian zones on the so-called Black Friday. The number of visitors last Friday was almost 50 percent higher than during the discount campaign last year, as analyzes by the data portal Hystreet show. The strongest increase in pedestrian frequencies was measured in Augsburg (+390 percent), Chemnitz (+221) and Rostock (+204).
At the start of the first weekend of Advent, the city centers benefited from the good weather, Black Friday and the Christmas markets, which are already open in many places, said Hystreet managing director Nico Schröder. Last year the discount campaign took place on November 24th, a good week before the first Advent.
Reduced prices before Black Friday
According to Hystreet, the number of pedestrians in city centers on the days before Black Friday this year, between Monday and Thursday, was on average 39 percent higher than in the same period last year. It has become established in retail that numerous products are offered at reduced prices even before the day of the promotion.
Hystreet counts pedestrian frequencies fully automatically around the clock, all year round, using laser scanners in around 110 cities at 322 locations. According to the company, the accuracy is 99 percent. The digital data is available to everyone on the company platform.
