EU Commission gives 4.6 billion for green technologies

From batteries for electric cars to hydrogen: climate-neutral technologies should be further promoted in Europe. The EU Commission is now making more than four billion available.

To advance Europe’s green transformation, the EU Commission is making 4.6 billion euros available. The Brussels authority announced that a budget of 3.4 billion euros will be used for projects on decarbonization technologies – including batteries for electric vehicles.

A further 1.2 billion euros will be used to accelerate the production of renewable hydrogen. The money comes from the EU emissions trading system. According to estimates, this will bring in around 40 billion euros between 2020 and 2030.

Efforts to expand climate-neutral technologies are crucial to ensure the competitiveness of European industry while achieving climate goals, the Commission said. Project sponsors now have until the end of April or the end of February to apply for funding.
