The AFA reached an agreement with the governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillofand the mayor of The Silver, Julio Alakto present a project that allows the Diego Maradona Stadium in La Plata to be the new home of the Argentine national team from 2025.
From what was discussed at the meeting in question, the agreement includes the participation of the various national soccer teams and other soccer events both at the local level (Argentine Cup and neutral semi-finals and finals) and at the international level (continental cups).
In addition, the AFA will have 60 days to present a work proposal to the provincial government so that the Diego Armando Maradona stadium can be transformed in 2025 into “the new home of all Argentine Football.”
“We have 60 days ahead of us to begin putting the Diego Maradona stadium to use. We want to pay off this building debt, to have a first-class stadium, to be able to play all our football matches.”assured the president of the AFA, Claudio Tapiaabout the agreement.

And he added that the meetings have been going on for a long time: “We have been working for some time with Governor Axel Kicillof on a place that identifies all our Argentine teams.”
“Also, we have heeded the request of many of our soccer clubs to look for a closer location to be able to play decisive matches so that club members and fans do not have to spend so much money on long trips,” he added.
A few days ago, Tapia and Kicillof, together with the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, visited the stadium facilities and laid the foundations for changing venues and moving away from the Monumental.
“This agreement that we signed is something that the association has been looking for for a long time to be able to have its own stadium. The main idea according to the work plan commits to being able to hold several matches over the next few years”assured Kicillof.
And he added: “It is very important to be able to have this Argentine National Team in the province that, thanks to Chiqui, has given us so much joy in recent years. Now we are thinking about this dream being the stadium for all the clubs in Argentina, in the capital of the province”.
