The new Instagram updates

Among the new Instagram updates, three main ones stand out that can be seen in the message box.

Real time location

Instagram announced a new feature to improve user security and coordination. It is an old acquaintance, especially for those who also use WhatsApp. The real time location comes to Instagram so people can organize and find each other more easily.

Unlike WhatsApp, where you can share your location for intervals of 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours, Instagram limits this option to a maximum of 59 minutes. To activate real-time location you must follow these steps:

  • Open Instagram on your cell phone.
  • Enter direct messages and select the chat where you want to share the location.
  • Tap the plus sign (+) and choose “Location.”
  • Confirm that the location is correct or search for a specific address.
  • Select “Share your location.”

Nicknames in chats

The social network announced a new function that allows you to add a nickname to your user or your friends to make talking to them more fun.

Share an inside joke with a nickname to make your friends smile or simplify long usernames to make them easier to recognize. Nicknames only appear in your direct message chats and will not change your username anywhere else on IG“, they explained from the Instagram press.

To activate it, you have to go to a chat and tap at the top of the screen where the name of the user or group you are talking to is. There, within the tools there is one called “Nicknames”, where if you tap, you can add a nickname to both the group and yourself.

More stickers

Instagram added a total of 17 new sticker packs and more than 300 new stickers to share in your direct messages and give them a unique touch. Additionally, you can mark a sticker from your chat as a favorite so you can reuse the stickers that your friends have shared with you or those that you have created with cutouts.
