Did Elon Musk donate millions to British right-wing populists?

Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage wants to shape his right-wing populist party into the strongest force in Great Britain. He already seems to have the support of Elon Musk.

In Great Britain, rumors about a possible donation of millions from US billionaire Elon Musk to Nigel Farage’s right-wing populist Reform UK party are becoming louder and louder. The party leader, who became known as a Brexit champion, announced that Reform would accept money from Musk. Opponents, however, warned that the X and Tesla boss wanted to buy a party.

British media recently reported that Musk wanted to donate huge sums to the right-wing populists. The equivalent of almost 100 million euros is under discussion. There has been no confirmation from Musk yet. When asked by a reporter whether he wanted to donate £80 million, the tech entrepreneur recently replied no.

Elon Musk calls Britain a ‘tyrannical police state’

Musk has repeatedly attacked the British government led by Social Democratic Prime Minister Keir Starmer since the summer. Among other things, he called Britain a “tyrannical police state” after right-wing extremists were sentenced to prison for inciting hatred online.

To Farage’s announcement on X that reform would “change British politics forever,” Musk replied: “When is the first choice?”

Nigel Farage: “We need ammunition”

New party treasurer Nick Candy, who defected from the Conservatives, told right-wing broadcaster GB News that Reform UK would be happy to receive money from Musk. The billionaire real estate entrepreneur also promised a “seven-figure sum” out of his own pocket.

Farage was also open to money from Musk. “We need ammunition. We cannot run large nationwide election campaigns without money,” said the former EU parliamentarian. He has long portrayed himself as a big fan of the future US President Donald Trump, whom he met repeatedly, and as a “big admirer” of Musk. He donated more than $250 million to support Trump’s election campaign.

Reform UK stole numerous votes from the Conservatives in the general election in July, but is only represented by five MPs in the House of Commons in London due to the British majority voting system. The party, which takes a strict anti-migration course, has recently made further gains in surveys.
