SAP is positioning itself for the future. A restructuring program is expected to eliminate 9,000 to 10,000 jobs worldwide. It is now clear how many employees in Germany are leaving.
Around 3,500 employees of the software manufacturer SAP in Germany are leaving the company as part of the restructuring program currently underway. A spokesman said they were ceremoniously farewelled on Monday by SAP boss Christian Klein in the canteen in Walldorf, among others.
Specifically, 3,479 employees in this country are leaving the company with severance pay, including 686 as part of a voluntary program and 2,793 with an early retirement program.
9,000 to 10,000 jobs affected worldwide
The company announced the restructuring at the beginning of the year and justified it primarily with the need for new jobs that would focus in particular on artificial intelligence. Initially there was talk of around 8,000 jobs before SAP increased the number to 9,000 to 10,000 jobs lost worldwide in the summer.
When asked, the spokesman did not provide any further details on the progress of the restructuring. Most recently it was said that the program was expected to be completed in early 2025. The bottom line is that through investments in growth areas, the number of employees at the end of the year should roughly correspond to the previous level, it was said at the beginning of the year. SAP recently employed over 107,500 people worldwide, according to its third quarter announcement.
