Trump repeatedly portrays himself as a successful businessman and negotiator. Now the Japanese technology group Softbank is making a big promise to Trump and the USA.
US President-elect Donald Trump has announced investments by the Japanese technology group Softbank worth 100 billion US dollars (around 95 billion euros) in projects in the United States. This investment should create 100,000 jobs in the USA, said Softbank boss Masayoshi Son during a joint appearance with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in the US state of Florida. The money is expected to flow over the next four years.
This “historic investment” is a demonstration of confidence in America’s future, said Trump. It will help build “artificial intelligence, new technologies and other industries of tomorrow”. During the appearance, Trump also tried to persuade the head of the Japanese technology investor to double his investments to $200 billion. He said he would try it. Softbank had already pledged investments of $50 billion after Trump’s first election victory in 2016.
