The railway is renovating routes and has made advance payments for this. After some back and forth, tax money can now flow to the company.
The Bundestag has released billions in money for Deutsche Bahn. This involves 2.7 billion euros for the renovation of the rail network. The budget committee decided on an addendum to the so-called performance and financing agreement (LuFV) with the railway. The Union also agreed. After the traffic light failed, the red-green government no longer has a majority.
The Greens’ chief budget officer Sven-Christian Kindler told the German Press Agency: “By releasing the funds, we are taking a good step forward for a reliable railway in Germany.” Union parliamentary group vice-president Ulrich Lange (CSU) told the dpa that the resolutions on the LuFV supplement paved the way for Deutsche Bahn to continue to push ahead with the renovation of the high-performance corridors.
The railway had made advance payments for the renovations. By 2030, particularly busy routes are to be fundamentally renovated so that trains become more punctual. The renovation of the first route, the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim, was recently completed.
