The company Investigations Applied State Societybetter known as INVAP, originally from the province of Río Negro, patented the design of a compact modular nuclear reactor, named ACR-300. The patent was granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
In detail, the process began in July 2018 and was approved during this year. In the midst of the company’s progress, Javier Milei’s government is preparing to launch its Argentine Nuclear Plan and that establishes the construction of a new reactor plant in the south of the country.
INVAP managed to patent a new reactor model
In detail, it is about the design of reactor named ACR-300. It is a compact modular reactor with 300MW of electrical power of its own design.
The patent on the conceptual design of a compact pressurized water reactor was granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Thus, the company founded in 1976 in Río Negro seeks to expand alternatives within the energy industry, within the framework of the transition that is taking place in different countries around the world.

This year the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) together with INVAP signed a memorandum of understanding in order to work jointly on the CAREM reactor and other associated services.
There is currently a global supply of private investment for Small Modular Reactors, or SMRs, power plants. So much so that there is 22 projects in the US, 17 in Russia, 10 in China, 5 in Canada and 4 in the United Kingdom.
INVAP is currently working on the construction of the reactor multipurpose RA-10 in the Ezeiza nuclear complex and is advancing with a similar project in the Netherlands, the PALLAS reactor. Within the framework of the announcement of the Argentine Nuclear Plan, President Javier Milei names the Rio Negro company as an example to follow in the new nuclear scenario that the ruling party seeks to diagram based on measurement.
Javier Milei announced an Argentine Nuclear Plan to build new reactors
President Javier Milei announced on national television for his first year in office the creation of an Argentine Nuclear Plan, seeking to develop the energy transition sector. In this sense, the president warned: “We have plenty of energy, plenty of cold and inhospitable lands, and quality human resources. It is not for nothing that we are the country with the most technological unicorns per capita in the region.” It will be officially presented at 4 p.m. this Friday.
“These three factors combined form a perfect storm to attract very high level investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Let no one be surprised if Argentina becomes the next hub in the world. In fact, it is no coincidence that the largest companies in the world are evaluating projects in the country,” he stressed.
“The interesting thing is that the increase in energy demand implied by Artificial Intelligence is going to generate a resurgence of energy throughout the world.” nuclear energy after decades of decline, and we are not going to be left behind“said the president.
Accompanied by his cabinet of ministers, the libertarian leader promised: “We are going to design an Argentine Nuclear Plan that contemplates the construction of new reactors, as well as the investigation of the emerging technologies for small or modular reactors, maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency”.
