Volkswagen and IG Metall have struggled for a long time. It is now clear: the car manufacturer will not close any plants or issue operational layoffs for the time being.
According to the IG Metall trade union, a breakthrough has been achieved in the collective bargaining dispute with Volkswagen. The agreement averted plant closures and redundancies for operational reasons, IG Metall said.
Accordingly, all works will initially be preserved. In addition, job security will be reintroduced and extended until 2030. Nevertheless, Volkswagen wants to cut more than 35,000 jobs by 2030. The company announced in Berlin that the reduction should be carried out in a socially responsible manner. IG Metall and Volkswagen want to present further details in separate press conferences.
