President Javier Milei announced this Friday night the Argentine Nuclear Plan which contemplates, among other initiatives, the construction of a reactor in Atucha and the development of uranium reserves. It is related to the Government’s objective of turning the country into a Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub.
“We are contemporaries of a true technological revolution“, announced the president in reference to AI. “It opens a new frontier for this manifest destiny that we share as a species,” he said. To achieve this, nuclear energy can play a fundamental role.
In his read message, Milei contrasted Argentina with “many of the free nations” that “are afraid of innovation and punish the technology sector with taxes and regulations.” Instead, “we remove the regulations that have tied the hands of our people for decades,” he said.

Referring to Nuclear Planthe president stated that “nuclear energy will have its triumphant return And not only are we not going to be left behind, but we intend to be pioneers. Precisely for this task I have summoned Dr. Demian Reidel.” He will be the coordinator of the Plan.
The details of the Argentine Nuclear Plan
In the announcement, broadcast by social network X, the President was accompanied by the head of the Council of Advisors, Demian Reideland to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.
Reidel was designated as the responsible for the Argentine Nuclear Plan and he was the one who provided more details of the public initiative. It is a “ambitious plan that marks the rebirth of nuclear energy as the cornerstone of Argentina’s energy future and global, in a global context in which Artificial Intelligence and technological advances demand more and more energy.”
As reported Reidelthe national government will create the Argentine Nuclear Council, chaired by Demian Reidel and made up of the Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos; the defense minister, Luis Petri; and the president of the National Atomic Energy Commission, Germán Guido Lavalle.
In addition, the Plan has the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Behold dthe stages. In the first one, a small modular reactor (SMR) on the grounds of the Atucha Nuclear Power Plant. According to the official statement, this “will facilitate access to energy throughout the country and will considerably reduce power outages.”
The second stage will develop uranium reserves. This, they assure, will allow domestic demand to be met and will even allow the export of fuel elements with high added value.
