The Ministry of Labor had to apologize for suspending Vice President Veronica Abad

The ministry had suspended the vice president, in conflict with President Daniel Noboa, for alleged “abandonment of work.” The justice of his country left it without effect.

The political crisis in Ecuador had a new chapter. The Ministry of Labor of that country had to issue a public apology to Vice President Verónica Abad this Thursday.in compliance with a court ruling that annulled the five-month suspension of his position that the portfolio had applied.

Abad maintains a conflict with his former running mate, Daniel Noboaelected president of Ecuador in November 2023. The last stop occurred last month, when the Ecuadorian Ministry of Labor, by order of Noboa, decided to suspend the vice president from her duties for 150 days without remuneration due to a ”unjustified abandonment of work for three or more consecutive work days”.

Abad denounced “a coup d’état” and resorted to the justice system of his country to reverse Noboa’s decision. On December 23, the vice president had a favorable ruling that annulled the suspension and forced the Ministry of Labor of her country to issue a public apology.

The portfolio did so this Thursday through its social network account X. There they gave their public apologies “when the judge decides to grant her the right to be a public official under the scope of the Organic Law of Foreign Service and not a public servant under the regime of the Organic Law of Public Service”.

The accusation against Abad

The Ministry of Labor of Ecuador had accused Verónica Abbot -who also She is Ecuador’s ambassador to Israel– for not showing up at the Ecuadorian embassy in Türkiye on September 1, as scheduled. He only did it five business days later, which is why they decreed that ”abandonment of work”. This transfer to Turkish territory arose in the context of the increase in tension in Gaza, for security reasons.

In this context, the vice president issued a statement in which she seeks to “denounce what in effect constitutes the consumation of the announced coup d’état and attack against democracy in Ecuador, since the gross violation of the Constitutional order is the prelude to install a dictatorship on January 5, 2025“.
