The patenting of cars of the month will be around 22,000 units, when it is announced this Monday afternoon by the association that brings together the dealerships (ACARA). The final number will depend on the decision that each brand will make, on the last business day of 2024, to patent 0km this month or move them to January and start 2025 with higher numbers.
In any case, the data that matters most is the annual accumulated data, which shows a drop of 8%. With this information confirmed, the total market for the month should close at 410,000 units or little more compared to 450,000 in 2023.
It must be taken into account that, At the beginning of the year, a 25% drop was expected due to the market collapse after the devaluation of December 2023.

The car brands that grew in sales in 2024
toyota It leads the operations of the month and the year with 21.7% of the market in the brand ranking. It follows Volkswagen, with 16.5%. The third is Fiat with 12.1%.
The Hilux pickup leads December sales, but the novelty comes from the advancement of the ford ranger which is located in second place and also recovers the second position in the pickup segment, which in the last three months had been occupied by Amarok.
Third place in the ranking of best-selling models of the month is almost assured for Yaris. It is followed by the Peugeot 208, Corolla Cross, VW Polo, the Amarok, Tracker, Cronos and Corolla.
The data of the year
But one piece of information that is mixed among so much information is what happened in 2024 in terms of the evolution of sales of cars of the main brands. In a market that has shrunk, one of the most important terminals has reason to celebrate because it is the only one that grew in sales compared to 2023.
It is about Volkswagen. Of the seven main automotive companies based in the country, the German brand closes the year with positive numbers, with a growth of 14%.
From the 56,252 units sold in 2023, this year it increased to more than 65,000 units. With these numbers it placed second in the brand ranking.
Toyota leads it, but the Japanese automaker accompanied the general market decline. It closes 2024 with a 9% drop in sales. It went from 93,098 0km in 2023 to 86,000 in 2024.
The rest of the terminals also decreased their sales in the last 12 months: Fiat (-15%), Peugeot (11.8%), Ford (-5.1%), Renault (31%) and Chevrolet (-23% ).
It is true that other brands, such as Citroën or Jeep, end up with positive numbers, but they are low-volume automotive companies that do not manufacture in the country or do so marginally. Another of the established terminals is Nissan, which decreased its sales by 34%.
The explanation for this growth in Volkswagen sales has to do with the increase in imports.
The automaker is the one that increased the supply of imported vehicles the most compared to 2023, which was more limited. Models such as Polo, Nivus and T-Cross and the demand for savings plans was met.
This difference was obtained, especially, in the first part of the year because it reacted more quickly than the rest to the change in the rules of the game that the new Government ordered.
In addition, vehicles were available in Brazil, the main market of origin for imports.
In the case of Toyota, it had a more even import rhythm during 2023 and continued this year, but with the limitation of supply from Brazil due to the production plans established in the subsidiary in that country.
