The search against the clock for Martín Núnez continues in the Río de la Plata

This Sunday morning, Naval Prefecture officers resumed the search for Martín Núñez, who has been missing since last Friday in the waters of the Río de la Plata. The 23-year-old has still not given any clues since the moment he went swimming off the Buenos Aires town of San Fernando, while enjoying a ride on a sailboat.

Meanwhile, Cristian Núñez, the young man’s father, revealed that he “hopes to find him safe and sound.” “I have a feeling that someone rescued him and that he is somewhere unconscious,” said the man from the port of Olivos when the search for the young man resumed.

Likewise, he detailed the sequence in which his son chose to go swimming in the Río de La Plata when he was sailing with his girlfriend, Jessica, and his friend, Gastón, who had a license to sail boats.

They resumed the search for the young man missing in the river in San Fernando

“He decided to jump into the circular lifebuoy, but they didn’t notice that there was a current and when he threw in the lifebuoy it had moved and the water was very moving. My son is not a swimmer in these places, he knows how to swim but not for that type of swimming “, he explained in relation to the fact that there were eddies there.

In statements made to the press, he added: “The friend told me that he jumped in and tried to help him. My son was desperate to try to hold on to him, they let go and the friend was able to grab the life preserver, but Martín had already moved away. more of the current and there they lost sight of him.

Cristian said that at 3:22 p.m. on Friday was the last contact he had with his son, when he sent him a voice message to ask him what he was doing.

“I’m surfing, I’ll be back home later,” was the response he received from Martín and he responded: “Have a nice time and send videos.”

An hour later he received a call from his daughter-in-law through Martín’s cell phone: “He told me that he had gone swimming, but that they didn’t see him.”

“There I found out that it was a very serious situation and I came to this place that I don’t know. I came with a friend who helped me because I was in shock,” he said.

The boat had left Puerto Chico and headed to the Buenos Aires town of Olivos, 10 kilometers in a straight line on the Río de la Plata.

According to what was learned, Martín and the girlfriend would have jumped into the river halfway through the route due to the high temperatures, without a life jacket.

The young people were dragged by the current, at kilometer 2500, where the young woman was able to float, unlike the young man.

After the incident, the boys who were on board tried to rescue him, but they could not find him.

This Sunday, the Naval Prefecture once again deployed an inland operation similar to that on Saturday.

“The last thing we know is that a search was carried out in zone 1, that they have it specified and that it is where my son was lost.

This Sunday they started in zone 2 and the search continues. “I continue to hope to find my son safe and sound,” the father concluded.
